The MISSION of the Decorative Painting Apprenticeship Program is to provide real-world experiences for decorative painting artisans as well as create enduring art in public spaces consistent with the goals of public restoration programs.
About DPAP

The Decorative Painting Apprenticeship Program was formed in 2006 by Bernadette (Bernie) Forese of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Marlow and Brita DeMars of Lebanon, Connecticut. All are master artisans with thriving businesses.

Each has apprenticed in the field with many talented international teachers before starting their own faux finishing and decorative painting businesses. Real world decorative painting projects are not usually available to students learning the trade, so they consider themselves lucky to have had this training experience. With their businesses now flourishing, Bernie, Brita and Marlow wanted to give aspiring painters of all ability levels the opportunity for "real wall" experiences to learn faux finishing and decorative painting techniques, so they created the Decorative Painting Apprenticeship Program (DPAP).

DPAP selects several projects a year at different locations in the U.S.; assembles the best teachers; and invites students to participate in classes for a small fee. Students work closely with teachers to execute the design plan for the space.

DPAP's goal is to become the recognized leader for providing artistic support in the restoration of public spaces while providing educational venues for the development of emerging and established talent within the decorative painting field. Non-profit application was made and is pending.
